Calaveras, CA– Dave Gallagher, a beloved member of the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee community, has died following a battle with cancer.

Gallagher served as Frog Spa manager for years, dedicating countless hours to preparing the area beneath the Main Stage for the hundreds of bullfrogs and thousands of visitors who passed through during the annual event. He was known as a tireless advocate, educator, and volunteer.

“Dave holds a special place in Frog Jump history. He truly embodied the spirit of a Frog Jump volunteer,” said Bob Lema, fellow Frog Committee member. “His years of involvement were always focused on making the experience better for participants, Frog Spa visitors, and the community. He reminded us of the unique opportunity we share in being part of an American tradition recognized around the world.”

Laurie Giannini, CEO and fair manager, said Gallagher’s warmth extended beyond the event itself. “Dave was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He and his wife Helen were always ready with a kind word, a smile, or a hug.”

Each year on Grand Finals Sunday, Gallagher would look around the Frog Spa and remark that he wished the event could last just a little longer. “Because everything has settled into a pattern, and this is fun,” he would say. Gallagher’s legacy of kindness, dedication and joy will remain woven into the history of the Jumping Frog Jubilee.
