Park Ranger Displays Excellence

Sponsored by:

Yosemite, CA — A prestigious award goes to a Yosemite National Park Ranger.

Aaron Smith has received the Pacific West Region “Harry Yount Award”. Smith was recognized for his record of accomplishments, overall impact, and excellence in traditional ranger duties.

Yosemite Spokesperson Ranger Kari Cobb says, “He was nominated for the award by his peers. His peers have recognized him as an incredible ranger that does a wonderful job.” Cobb should know, she is Smith’s wife.

Smith not only does search and rescues at the park, but he is also a law enforcement ranger, wild land firefighter and park medic. He will be considered along with six other rangers across the country for the National Award, which is one of the highest recognitions a ranger can receive. The national winner will be announced next week. The award will be named at a dinner in Washington, D.C., in March 2014.
