Roller Derby

Saturday I was at High Country Sports Arena for the final game of the season for Roller Derby. HCSA is a non-profit organization managed by a volunteer board of directors and run by volunteers from the community. Most of the year it is used by kids for In-Line Hockey and Roller Figure Skating while also hosting Adult In-Door Soccer and Tuolumne County Youth Soccer practices. They recently launched Ladies Roller Derby and the crowds to view the game are increasing. Arriving early we were able to secure seats just behind the front row "VIP seating". When the game got started there were lots of people standing and all the seats were taken. The rules are explained basically there is nothing brutal going on just a little pushing and a lot of strategy. It is a family friendly event, in fact the half-time show was put on by On Stage Dance Studio.

A short video of the game is posted in our brand new MyNews section.

MyNews is myMotherLode.com’s newest section it allows you to upload videos and photos of breaking news and weather. There will be contests and of course the popular pet section is for posting your favorite videos and photos of your animal friends. Local high school sports videos are welcome- ALL events such as: swimming, track, gymkhana and Roller Derby. I know we have several talented amateur and professional people in the Mother Lode who capture local events. Post your videos on the region’s most popular website and get local viewers and comments.

If you are interested in any of High Country Sports Arena (HCSA) programs or becoming a volunteer call 209-768-9790 or email  The facility consists of a 175’x75′ Skating surface with Sportcourt floor, Border Patrol boards and tempered glass, four sided scoreboard in middle of rink, Stadium cushioned seating for 104 spectators, raised snack bar for easy view of the floor, 4 large locker rooms with showers, proshop and rental shop with lots of "High County Hell Cats" Gear.
