Comment Guidelines

We encourage our readers at myMotherLode.com to be a part of the community by giving you a soapbox. In return for giving you a place to speak your opinion, we simply ask you adhere to a few guidelines. We expect our commenters to be identified by their full legal names and have lively discussions, but racist, hate-filled, harassing or libelous comments will not be tolerated. Please read our Comment Rules below for full guidelines.

Commenting on news stories requires registration. Participation in this online community is a privilege and not a right. If you violate these Comment Rules or or your comments are not civil, we may cancel your account, prohibit you from opening alternate accounts and deny you access to our website.

Comments are moderated on the following schedule

  • On a weekday between 4pm – 9am it will appear by 10am.
  • Between 9am to 4pm it will appear by 5pm.
  • If your comment is made after 4pm on Friday it will display on Monday by 10am.
  • If your comment does not appear, review our comment guidelines. Please remember that we strive to keep this a family friendly site.

Becoming a member

To contribute to the community conversation on myMotherLode.com, you must first create an account and become a member. While membership grants certain privileges, it also carries with it many responsibilities.

You must provide and maintain accurate personal information in your account record. Our use of your personally-identifying information is covered by the Privacy Policy here http://www.mymotherlode.com/privacy-policy.

MyMotherLode.com allows you to post content under your legal first and last name, you are in no way anonymous.

  • You may not impersonate anyone in either the private or public portions of your user profile.
  • You may post information using only your own account, and you are responsible for anything posted under your identity, including defamatory material, illegal activity, and infringement of other people’s intellectual property rights. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and the secrecy of your password. You may not share your password with any third party.

You may not post information that purports to be from any person or entity, or falsely states or otherwise misrepresents your affiliation with a person or entity; or that includes personal or identifying information about another person without that person’s explicit consent.

While some parts of myMotherLode.com are open to all, membership is available only to persons aged 13 years and over. Under no circumstances may persons under the age of 13 register for an account, and myMotherLode.com explicitly does not solicit or accept personally identifying information from persons under the age of 13. We encourage you to use your legal name (first and/or last). You may not use any name that intentionally impersonates another or violates others intellectual property rights. Any name deemed in violation of that rule or any that is considered offensive by myMotherLode.com will be deleted.

The comments posted on myMotherLode.com do not reflect the opinions or views of Clarke Broadcasting or its affiliates. Comments are moderated before they can be seen publicly. This service and the comments that are posted are provided for community information purposes only.

Comment moderators use specific criteria, including the following guidelines, for determining if a comment should be shown on our site. myMotherLode.com may choose not to post or to remove the comment if it does not meet our comment guidelines. myMotherLode.com does not assume any liability for content posted by others. myMotherLode.com cannot assure the truthfulness, accuracy or reliability of information posted on the discussion boards. myMotherLode.com reserves the right to delete any message under circumstances that, in myMotherLode.com judgment, are inappropriate, unlawful or otherwise detrimental to the community dialogue.

1. Be Respectful
In cases of tragedies and/or fatalities, please be sensitive to the parties affected. The individuals involved and families of those featured in our stories can and do read these comment boards.

Personal attacks, hateful, racially or ethnically derogatory comments, harassment or threats will not be tolerated. Keep your comments relevant to the article.

2. Avoid Nasty Language
Foul, obscene or sexually explicit language or other content that a reasonable person would find objectionable is not permitted. Suggestive or obscene language or “cleverly” disguised vulgar, suggestive or obscene language is not tolerated.

3. Don’t Spam
Advertisements, solicitations or promotions will not be allowed.

4. Use Your Own Words
The distribution of intellectual property not belonging to you is not permitted. When posting a comment you represent that you have the legal right to reproduce, adapt, perform, display and distribute such content to others.

5. Make Yourself at Home
Remember, this is your community. Don’t be shy to chime in and interact with the Mother Lode community.

6. Comment Limitations
Comments are meant to be singular opinions. Should you want to interact with other commenters about any particular news story or topic we welcome you to begin a conversation in our forums. Comments are limited to 800 characters, longer posts will not be approved. Comments on a single news story are limited to no more than four per user name.

The forums are for more lengthy discussions and you may post links to your forum post in one of your four news story comments. If you have not registered for our forums the link is here.

Any comments you wish to send directly to myMotherLode.com (without posting) can be emailed directly to the department or program of your choice as listed on our Contact Us page. If you have reason to believe that a comment is unlawful or contrary to the guidelines set forth above, please notify us immediately at sambler@clarkebroadcasting.com.

By posting comments on myMotherLode.com you expressly grant myMotherLode.com and its affiliates the right to reproduce, adapt, perform, display, and distribute any such message in any form worldwide, in perpetuity.

By submitting comments and pictures for consideration for myMotherLode.com gallery, you further agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless myMotherLode.com, its affiliates, and its officers, employees and directors from and against all liabilities, claims and expenses arising from or relating to your posting of material on myMotherLode.com discussion boards and/or comments (including any claim that myMotherLode.com or its affiliate’s use of such content infringes the copyright, trademark or other proprietary rights of any third party) or your use of material posted on myMotherLode.com.

As the Internet and our discussion boards evolve, it may be necessary to change these guidelines. MyMotherLode.com reserves the right to changes these guidelines at any time in its sole discretion. The current guidelines will be available to you here.

Termination of Account

Your account on myMotherLode.com may be terminated at any time, with or without notice, for any violation of the foregoing Rules, or any other legitimate, good-faith reason not enumerated above, in the sole discretion of Clarke Broadcasting. In the event your account is terminated, you agree that your sole recourse is to request reinstatement of your account and membership privileges by contacting myMotherLode.com via: sambler@Clarkebroadcasting.com. You may not open alternate accounts.
