Railtown 1897 SHP
The calendar may still say summer but California State Parks, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation are already planning for the holidays and preparing for the second season of THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride in Jamestown this December. Interested community members are encouraged to attend a special Open House on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Jamestown Community Hall on Main Street to find out more about volunteer opportunities that will help make the holiday season magical at Railtown 1897 SHP. In fact, the popular and fun holiday train ride would not be possible without the dedication and participation of spirited volunteers who support the California State Railroad Museum Foundation with the fundraising event that benefits Railtown 1897 SHP.
Supported by community volunteers and utilizing a festive locomotive decked out to reflect Christmas magic as it heads to the North Pole, the volunteers at the Railtown 1897 SHP will once again go to great lengths to re-create the holiday experience depicted in the classic children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg and the popular Warner Brothers movie. The holiday experience includes a train ride, a keepsake golden ticket, hot chocolate, festive holiday cookies, Santa Claus sightings and even the coveted silver sleigh bell – the first gift of Christmas for those who still believe.
Volunteers aged 16 years or older are needed on board the train to help serve passengers their cookies and “hot, hot, hot” chocolate; greet guests as they arrive at the train depot; and assist Santa Claus as he meets all of his young believers.
