Gold Rush Writers Conference is Back!
After a five-month Covid hiatus, the popular the 16th annual Gold Rush Writers Conference will return October 1 – 3 to Mokelumne Hill to provide writers of all levels with inspiration and focus. All are invited, both readers and writers, to this event created by New York Times best-selling author and San Francisco Chronicle columnist Antoinette may. Her biography about Korean War correspondent Marguerite Higgins, Witness to War, has recently been optioned for a TV series.
Co-Producer of this event is Monika Rose, founder of Manzanita Writers Press, a 501c3 company that has published nearly forty books in the past few years, and has many more in the works. A career AP English teacher in Lodi, Monika recently retired to devote more time to MWP and Writers Unlimited, a writers group she founded in 1984 that has spawned many other groups. Through these she has encouraged hundreds of writers, scores of whom are now published through MWP and other entities.
The historic Leger Hotel in Mokelumne Hill will be the venue for a variety of celebrity lectures, workshops and panel discussions headed by accomplished writers including Tommy Orange, whose book about modern-day Native Americans living in Oakland, There There, was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize; Sands Hall, author of Publishers Weekly’s Best Book in Contemporary Fiction for her novel Catching Heaven; and Ace Antonio Hall, a.k.a. Nzondi (En-zon-dee), winner of the Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in Young Adult Fiction for his novel Oware Mosaic.
The speakers will also lead workshops, along with authors Kevin Arnold, Lucy Sanna, Kathy Boyd Fellure, Antoinette May, Monika Rose Tom Sims and Kathy Isaac Luke.
