Begin your holiday season with the Columbia College Community Chorus’ annual “Sounds of the Season” concert at the Sonora Opera Hall. Performances are Friday, November 30 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, December 1 at 3:00 pm; and Sunday, December 2, 3:00 pm.
Morten Lauridsen’s luscious “O Magnum Mysterium,” a sacred a cappella motet, will be follwed by Felix Mendelssohn’s “Vom Himmel Hoch,” a 6-movement work for chorus, soloists and orchestra, based on Martin Luther’s Christmas chorale. The first half of the concert will end with the premiere performance of conductor Daryl Hollinger’s stimulating and uplifting “Gloria,” a 3-movement work for chorus, soloists and orchestra. The concert’s second half will feature holiday music of varying traditions, from Hanukkah to Gospel and Doo-Wop. Also included will be the chorus’ traditional “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah,” and the ever-popular audience sing-along.
Tickets are $10 presale or $12 at the door, $5 age 12 and under. Tickets available at the Mountain Bookshop, Manzanita Bookstore, and Murphys Music Company, or by calling 209-694-0168.
