If you’ve ever been curious about growing miniature trees in a pot, the Mother Lode Bonsai Club invites you to a design and skills workshop on Saturday, October 1 at the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road (off Mountain Ranch Road) in San Andreas.
The monthly member meeting starts at 10 a.m. and will be followed immediately by the public workshop. There is no charge for attending. Club mentors will provide ideas and hands-on training in the care and design of bonsai.
Former and current members are encouraged to bring a plant/tree, wire, tools and table covering for the workshop. Others should come with their questions to learn more about this ancient craft. This will be an opportunity to meet local bonsai community members, see firsthand how to raise miniature trees, and get information on different types of plants, recommended tools, preferred pots, soil materials and other basic supplies. A raffle is also planned to offer bonsai items.
For more information on the Mother Lode Bonsai Club, contact Doug Lau at (209) 588-8106, or dlauhale@gmail.com. Everyone is invited to attend club meetings, demonstrations and workshops regardless of their levels of experience in bonsai. Members come from Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, as well as the San Joaquin Valley.
