More than a Museum Railtown it is an experience. In addition to summer train rides; in the spring the park calls attention to the wildflowers, in October ride in Halloween costumes, and in winter the special Polar Express train rides offer a very special experience. Holiday events at the park include an Easter egg hunt and special recognition of veterans. The guided tour of the Park’s working railroad roundhouse in the summer is enriching. Tours are usually hourly between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the summer. The rest of the year, it depends upon the availability of volunteer Tour Guides, weather conditions and special events. There is more about the town where Railtown is located in the Community Guide Jamestown.
The grounds at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park are fully accessible to persons with disabilities. Certain exhibits and programs, including train rides, have limited accessibility, due to factors such as narrow, historic stairways and door openings on railroad passenger cars. A mobility lift is available and can accommodate chairs and walkers. The historic cars can accommodate chairs with widths of 28″ and narrower, however, the park also has a transfer chair available. For the best possible service, call (209) 984-3953 before your arrival.
