State Fair Volunteers Are Needed

The 2015 California State Fair is Almost Here: Volunteers are Needed

The Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau (TCVB) will once again showcase the wonderful tourism assets in Tuolumne County at the 2015 California State Fair in Sacramento. This year, Richard Bay, exhibit builder, will create something new and different. It will feature the likeness of Relief Art which is a sculpture technique where the material has been raised above the background plane. This form of art dates back over 20,000 years. The exhibit will have a “then and now” feel, using reclaimed wood products from Tuolumne County donated by Sierra Pacific Industries. This wood will highlight the historic feel while the relief art shows off the Tuolumne County. This year’s theme is “Feasts and Festivals.”

It takes months of thoughtful imagination and planning in addition to a strong team of TCVB staff and knowledgeable volunteers to make this exhibit the best that it can be. Pre-building is well under way and the vision is coming to life. It is going to be an exceptional exhibit and something Tuolumne County can be proud of.

Volunteers are needed to staff the exhibit throughout the fair which runs July 10-26, 2015. If you have a passion for Tuolumne County, consider volunteering at the state fair. It is fun, rewarding and really easy. Folks ask lots of questions when they stop by to visit. For example: How far we are from Sacramento? How long will it take to get there? They also want to know about all of the things there are to do and see in Tuolumne County. Tuolumne County residents all have favorite places in the County and sharing those is a natural. The Counties Exhibit building is a favorite among fair goers and a wonderful place to escape the summer heat in a lively air-conditioned building. Volunteers receive free admission to the fair and free parking. It’s a great time and a great deal, so we invite you to join in the fun!
This year the fair runs from Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 26. Fair hours are 11 AM to 10 PM Monday through Thursday and 10 AM to 10 PM Friday – Sunday.

Our goal is to have two people volunteering in the exhibit per shift. We have many shifts available that run from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Thursday and 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Friday through Sunday. We encourage everyone who volunteers to make time before or after their shift to get out and enjoy the fair! Volunteer times are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis. Contact Anna at anna@gotuolumne.com or Sandy at sandy@gotuolumne.com or call us at 209-533-4420.

Reserve your favorite shift today and enjoy all that the 2015 California State Fair has to offer!
