Is Covered California the same as Medi-Cal?

Covered California was established following the passage of the Affordable Care Act and includes private insurance as well as Medi-Cal. Covered California is a partnership of the California Health Benefit Exchange and the California Department of Health Care Services. Covered California provides a “one-stop-shop” for individuals and families to shop for health insurance and compare options. In addition, with one application, California residents can find out if they are eligible for tax credits to help pay for private insurance or if they are eligible for free or low-cost health care through Medi-Cal, California’s version of the federal Medicaid program.
