Angels Camp, CA – Authorities have released the identity of a local woman who tragically passed following a two-vehicle crash during which she ejected from her driver’s seat.

As reported here, the accident occurred Saturday night around 7:20 p.m. According to CHP San Andreas Unit officials, the victim was 36-year-old Dorthea J Martz of Angels Camp.

She and a six-year-old female passenger had been headed east on Vallecito Road east of Rolleri Bypass, driving a 2005 Subaru Impreza at what officials describe as a high rate of speed.

Unfortunately, while attempting to negotiate a right hand curve she drove into a westbound 1980 Ford F250 truck driven by 24-year-old Rodney Sanders of Vallecito. After the left front of the Subaru collided with the pickup’s left rear, it careened off the road and overturned twice, ejecting Martz some 20 feet from her vehicle, causing her to sustain life-threatening injuries. The CHP reports that while a ground ambulance brought her to a landing zone at Angels Camp Police Department she succumbed before she could be air transported to a trauma center.

Officials report that the child in Martz’s Subaru was taken to Mark Twain Medical Center and treated for minor injuries while Sanders and his passenger, 24-year-old Dylan Bock of Murphys, were uninjured. Toxicology tests are still pending from the Calaveras County Coroner’s Office to determine whether or not alcohol and/or drugs contributed to the crash.
