Second Weekend In August Events

It is a quiet weekend for events, but there is still plenty to enjoy before schools starts for many students.

The printable guide for August’s Second Saturday Art Night says it “will feature some hot talent and cool artists all along Washington Street sidewalks.” Live music will be performed in the local shops from about 5pm on. Art Mart on Linoberg Street will feature TCAA sharing about “The Handmade Parade,” paintings, handcrafted bags and the local Bonsai Club. A $5 ticket to enjoy the music in Coffill park, which opens at 7 PM with music starting at 8 PM, helps to support more events. Tips collected by each performer support the performers. The Second Saturday Art Night’s mission is to “enhance the quality of our lives and build a positive sense of engagement with our community through the Arts.”

On Monday there will be a celebration of the new Sonora High Aquatics Center. The ribbon cutting ceremony on August 14th begins at 4:00 pm and will include a free swim. Sonora Youth Aquatics will be selling water, sno-cones and t-shirts. The event’s community calendar listing is here the news story about the event is here.

Local theatre performances of “Hamlet” at Brice Station Vineyards, The Great American Trailer Park Musical at the East Sonora Theater, and Underpants by Stage 3 at the Sonora High School Auditorium continue with a new addition: Into the Woods, Jr. put on by the Mountain Youth and Community Theatre: MYACT.  The play is a musical comedy featuring familiar Grimm fairy tale characters like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel.
