Recent Storms Continue To Impact Mother Lode Roads

Sponsored by:

Groveland, CA — Travelers will find several roadways continue to be closed after  this week’s storms pounded the Mother Lode.

The latest closure is in Tuolumne County, Elderberry Way at the Hemlock Street intersection off Ferretti Road in Groveland has been closed to traffic. County road officials report the roadway is so saturated from the heavy rains it is impassable. There is no word as to how long repairs will take.

In Calaveras County, it could take weeks to fix a section of Highway 26 that was washed away Friday afternoon forcing the closure of the roadway. Caltrans reports the highway has been shut down between Higdon Road and the North Fork Bridge just west of West Point. Motorists should expect 20 minute delays as Mokelumne Hill is a suggested alternate route by the CHP.

Pettinger Road has been shut down from Highway 12 to Messing Road due to flooding. The public works department advises motorists to use Messing Road as a detour.

Additionally, two roads continue to be closed since the wave of storms began in January.  Flooding across sections of Marshes Flat and Italian Bar roads have kept those roadways closed.  (Click here for an early story detailing the damage).
