Update at 7:30pm:  Another day of work on the fire lines  helped raise the Butte Fire containment to 87% with the size remains at 70,868. Cal Fire PIO Josh Rubinstein reports another good sign is that the resources have decreased by 500 firefighters with 2,159 still battling the blaze. Currently, 105 engines, 59 hand crews, 3 helicopters, 18 water tenders and 18 dozers remain on scene.

Original Post at 7:29am:  Angels Camp, CA — CAL Fire reports that the Butte Fire is now 84% contained.

The acreage held steady overnight at 70,868. 475 homes have been destroyed, 343 outbuildings and 42 additional structures have been damaged. Evacuation centers remain open at the Jackson Rancheria Hotel, Jenny Lind Veterans Hall and Glory Bound Fellowship in Burson. Full containment is anticipated by October 1st. Also of note, President Obama has issued a federal disaster declaration for the Valley Fire up in Lake, Sonoma and Napa counties. That fire has resulted in three fatalities and over 1,200 homes destroyed. It opens the door for additional federal funding. Governor Jerry Brown also requested a federal disaster declaration for the Butte Fire, but the President has not acted on that request.
