In the Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln wrote that government isn’t “…charged with the duty of redressing, or preventing, all the wrongs in the world” and felt that it’s role is to only do those things that cannot be done individually but need to be done collectively like roads, schools, public safety and national defense.
