Sponsored by:

Johgn “Jack” Dale Brown passed away Sunday, September 24th at his residence in San Diego, CA. Jack’s parents William and Mildred Brown, moved shortly after Jack was born, with their family of five to the mining town of Bodie, Mono County, CA. Jack with his brother, Elwood and sister, Eleanor went to school in the one room school house in Bodie. Together they shared the wonders, the fun, and the hardships of living in a mining town on the edge of the wilderness on the Eastern slope of the Sierra. Jack, Elwood, and Eleanor loved to tell stories about those days, and returned to visit Bodie as often as time allowed, throughout their lives. Jack, and his brother Elwood often marveled at the contrast that they experienced both being raised in the days of the horse and buggy and their careers in the aeronautic and space industries. Jack was a handsome figure in the Navy uniform that he wore proudly for 21.5 years. He retired as a Naval Aviator LCDR USNR, having flown in both WWII, and the Korean War. For most of the next 22 years he then worked as an FAA Air Carrier Operations Inspector. An avid golfer, with an SCGA Handicap 7 Jack loved the game of golf. He loved sports of all kinds, and followed The Chargers, and the Padres with a passion. He loved to cook and all of the family loved to be invited for a meal at Jack’s house. Having been raised in Mono County, he developed a love for the outdoors, and was an accomplished hunter, and fisherman. He was known to have a shot a flying quail in the head with a .22 on at least one occasion. Jack is survived by his companion, Katherine Pitts of San Diego, Nieces; Ginny Holman Marx of Bellingham, WA, Jane Holman Smerdon, of Truckee, CA, Christine Holman, of Sonora, CA, Katy of Kihei, Hi, and Cilla Brown Stoddard of Kihei, HI.
