John Martinez Mendiola, born December 27, 1951 in San Jose, California passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, California. He was 35-year resident of Sonora CA before moving in 2020 to Jamestown. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 53 years, Pamela Mendiola; two sons, Tony Mendiola and Joey Mendiola. Additional surviving family members include two brothers, Joe (Diane) DeLeon of Lincoln CA and Florentino Mendiola of Argentina. He is also survived by a nephew, nieces, and many cousins, family and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Narciso Mendiola and Refugia (Cuca) Mendiola and his brother, Raymond Mendiola.

John was raised in San Jose CA. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. During his lifetime, John wore many hats including serving his community well. However, his most fulfilling work was being called to help the Vietnam veterans. He was the Vice-President of Vietnam Veterans of America – Sonora, Chapter #391.

A Church Service and a Celebration of Life will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Vietnam Veterans of America – Sonora Chapter #391, 9 N. Washington St., Sonora CA 95370.

Cremation is planned and a Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be scheduled at a later date. Terzich & Wilson Cremation-Funeral Home entrusted with Cremation arrangements.
