David Burwell Evans, Born August 9, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland passed away Friday, February 25, 2022 at Adventist Health Sonora.

He is the son of Mary Ann Evans and Ralston K. Evans. David had health issues as a child. He suffered from severe asthma all his life but he persevered. “When things are tough, the tough get going” was his motto. David attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Calvert Hall High School. He worked for L. Greif Clothing Manufacturers and for a time at the B&O railroad and then The Bendix Corporation in Towson, Md.

In 1966 he met his future wife Ann. They were married on June 15th 1968. David then got employment at The University of Maryland, College Park where he earned his B.S. Degree. David worked for the Electrical Engineering Department, where he was the facilities manager. He oversaw the Crystal Growth Facility and learned to be a photo-lithographer. David retired from the university after 25 years. Then he and his wife Ann and brother-in-law Frank Matranga moved to Sonora in the late 1990s. Eventually, they became the last owners of Sierra Lighting.

David has been preceded in death by his parents, stepfather George R. Gosnell, Brother-in-law, Frank J. Matranga, Great nephew Nolan Reid Burtrim and Great nephew-in-law P.J.Burtrim,
Lieutenant in the Baltimore City Fire Dept.

David leaves behind his grieving wife Ann of nearly 54 yrs. David’s sister Darleen; nieces Mariann, Michele, Melinda, and nephews Matthew and Sam Himpler and Joe Matranga. His also
leaves behind a great-niece Rachel Burtrim and great-nephew John Spiegle and his children Kay lee and Kaden.

David will sorely be missed by all who knew this kind and gentle soul.

Cremation is planned and inurnment will be in Mt. Shadow Cemetery, Sonora, California
