James “Jim” Earl Bland, born March 11, 1933 in Rector, Arkansas passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Avalon Care Center Sonora. Cremation is planned and private inurnment with military honors will be held in Sacrament Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.

Jim loved music and playing his trombone, Jim was a regular during Tuolumne County musical events and loved to sing and direct music. Jim was a well-known and respected member of the community and Law Enforcement Community.

Jim had belonged to the Sonora Mountain lions Club, the Elks of Sonora

Jim started his career in the Roseville Police Dept and then transferred to the Oakdale Police Dept. he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in February 1971 to the Tuolumne County. Jim rose through the ranks to achieve Lieutenant. During his long career Jim was an Investigator, Chief Deputy Coroner, Jail Commander, Patrol Commander, and Head of the Communications-Records Dept.

Children: Dennis Bland of Sonora, Randal Bland of Jamestown, Marilee Bland of Buffalo,
Step-Children: Nancy Gamez of North Carolina, Eddie Gamez of Idaho, Neil Gamez of Sonora, Misty Gamez of San Jose
Grandchildren: DJ Bland of Arizona, Chastity Bland of Carson City, Neil Bland of Reno, Tyler Bland of Sonora, Ray Bland of Snelling, Chad Barns of Sonora, Joshua Bland of Buffalo, Gabe Gamez of Sonora, Chad, Augustus, Penelope Gamez of Sonora, Gabby, Sofia, Alexa, Liam, Antonio Chavez of San Jose

The Family will not have services for James, but have requested that in lieu of flowers, cards, or remembrance by made a cash donation to the Alzheimer’s A_SSQ_ciation or Parkinson’s Association in the name of James Earl Bland
