Chuck L. Leslie Jr., a long-time resident of Sonora, born June 3, 1948 passed away Monday, August 23, 2021 at his residence in Sonora, California Following a long and courageous battle with cancer, he died peacefully
at home surrounded by his family. Chuck was born in Blythe, CA where his dad was working on a road construction crew. His dad worked on many ranches in Arizona, Nevada, California, and Oregon. The family moved often and Chuck never went to school in one place for a full year.

Chuck drove one of his dad’s trucks as a teenager working on the construction of the Oroville Dam. Then he went to Arizona and worked on several ranches. He returned to California to work for his uncle who had a small feedlot in Coulterville.

In 1970, he met and married Tuolumne County native, Carol Heron. He got a job driving a log truck for Don Fulton and lived in Greeley Hill until March of 1973. He and Carol bought a home in Sonora where they still lived these many years.

Chuck bought his own truck in 1979 and hauled logs and heavy equipment. He also moved machine shops. He moved Graham Contractors from job to job and ran a loader for them for a number of years.

He enjoyed hunting in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Canada with his friends and family. He loved the mountains and camping at Dardanelles, Kennedy Meadows, and Clark Fork. He loved his grandkids and took them along with him when he could. He rode his horse Smoky with them in the Mother Lode Roundup parades and the Christmas parades in Tuolumne and also rode with them in the mountains on their camping trips. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and never missed any events that his children or grandchildren were involved in. He was a fabulous cook and his family recalls that nobody could tell a story quite like he did.

He was industrious, hard-working, kind, generous, and devoted to his family. He was much loved by his family and many friends and will be truly missed.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Carol; his son, Preston Leslie and his wife, Colleen; daughter Laura Leslie Krieg and her husband, David; grandchildren, Taylor, Preston, Todd, and Cort Leslie; Colten, Tanner, and Zachary Krieg; sisters: Linda Flournoy, Bessie Maxwell, Barbara Leslie, and Jackie Leslie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
