Sonora, CA — Cooler temperatures, mountain showers and cold fast moving rivers are expected across the Mother Lode for Memorial Day weekend.
The National Weather Service says a low pressure system will bring cooler weather with a chance of showers and thunderstorms to the mountains.
Melting of the snow pack will slow with the cooler weather over the next few days, but area rivers and streams will continue to run high and fast with cold water.
Officials advise residents and visitors to wear life jackets in or near water, since some deaths have resulted from slips into the water.
