Sheriff’s Department Offers Safety Tips For Boaters
Sonora, CA — Now that the summer recreation season is coming into full swing, the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department is reminding residents of some very important safety issues.
Every year the Sheriff´s Department responds to fatalities on local lakes and rivers and they want this year to be different.
Without exercising the proper caution and without being diligently aware of the environment around you, rafting, kayaking, boating and swimming can be extremely dangerous.
The Sheriff´s Department says the number one precaution they need everyone to take is to wear a life jacket. Another huge concern is for kayakers who underestimate the speed of the rivers.
Third, don´t drink and boat. Officials will be arresting anyone found operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol.
Finally, they ask that residents respect other boaters and obey the boating laws.
