Clements, CA — Nineteen-year-old Victoriano Gauna Junior has been identified as the man shot and killed by a Calaveras County Sheriff´s deputy over the weekend.
Three Calaveras deputies are on administrative leave after they responded to a reported shooting at Lake Comanche Saturday. Unable to locate a shooting victim, they continued their search at the Mokelumne Fish Hatchery.
There, the deputies found a male and female milling around in front of a parked car. Gauna was sitting in the back seat.
As deputies approached, Gauna raised a shotgun. One deputy responded by firing multiple rounds.
Calaveras County Undersheriff Mike Walker says the names of the deputies involved will be released later this week after they go through a psychological examination to make sure they are OK.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff´s Department is overseeing the investigation. Calaveras Sheriffs are conducting a parallel investigation.
