Calaveras And Tuolumne Rank Low In Protecting Children

Sponsored by:

Calaveras County, CA — A recent report ranks Calaveras and Tuolumne counties as some of the lowest in the state when it comes to ensuring the safety of children who have suffered abuse or neglect.

The report was done by the National Center for Youth Law, a private, non-profit law office that serves children and their families.

Calaveras ranks 47 and Tuolumne 52 out of the state´s 58 counties regarding performance of state and federal standards. Amador County is ranked number 1.

The report calls out the inadequate and unequal treatment and makes recommendations to officials for correcting the problem.

Karen Ferguson, a supervisor with Calaveras County´s Child Services, says the report misapplies statistics.

She says the data from county to county is not comparable because of the way they report the numbers.
