Calaveras Snow Details

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Many residents in Calaveras County were locked up in their homes with out power for the better part of Saturday and some still are as this latest Sierra storm brought snow levels down to record lows.

In Calaveras, heavy snow was reported in Angels Camp and San Andreas.

Highway 49 is open and chains are required on Highway 4 above Murphys.

County road crews and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection are working around the clock to clear hundreds of fallen trees and reopen local roads.

Calaveras County Administrative Officer Tom Mitchell says it´s too soon to tell when some county roads will be reopened, especially when another storm is expected to hit this evening and Sunday morning.

PG&E also said they are working to restore power in those spots that are still out.

County officials also say they just aren´t set up for snow removal at the lower elevations so its´ taken some time to adjust their resources.

All agencies are urging residents to stay off the roads unless they must travel.
