New Provisional License Restrictions In Effect
San Andreas, CA — The California Highway Patrol is reminding motorists of changes in the law relating to provisional drivers licenses held by drivers under the age of 18.
Officer Mike Maddox of the San Andreas office says an extension of provisional license restrictions to one year took effect January 1st.
The extension applies to those under 18 who have been issued a license after January 1st. It also applies to those already holding a license that was issued after January 1st of 2005.
The law says drivers under 18 holding provisional licenses cannot transport passengers under the age of 20 and cannot drive between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. without a parent or guardian in the car for 12 months after issuance.
The previous restriction period was six months.
