San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County animal pound has undergone several changes over the past few months, and all for the better.
The Sheriff´s Department took over the pound after a veterinarian´s report found many health and safety violations. Animals now have cleaner cages, Animal Control officers got new uniforms and better trucks, and the pound also has a new leader, Sgt. Chris Hewitt.
Hewitt says the pound needed a new name as well, to better reflect education and outreach rather than enforcement. The new name is The Calaveras County Animal Services Facility.
More renovations are planned to better meet standards, however organizers say it would take a lot of money to build a shelter that could showcase the animals.
