Tuolumne County Jail Inmate Found Dead In Cell
Sonora, CA — A Tuolumne County Jail inmate is dead and Sheriff´s Department officials have opened an investigation.
The Sheriff´s Department says the 43-year-old inmate was discovered dead in his cell at about 5:00 Friday afternoon when a member of the jail staff went to pick up his food tray after dinner.
Paramedics were immediately summoned to the jail where they began efforts to revive the inmate.
He was transported by ambulance to Tuolumne General Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30. Officials say the man was alone in his cell when he was discovered.
He was reportedly awaiting trial on weapons charges after being arrested on an outstanding warrant in Sonora November 13th.
Officials say an autopsy will be performed at a later time.
The man´s name has not been released pending notification of family members.
