Valentine’s Day Trial Set For Lodi Terror Suspects

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — A father and son from Lodi will be tried on terrorism-related charges beginning February 14 in what prosecutors predict will be at least a seven-week jury trial.

A federal judge set the Valentine´s Day opening of the trial against Umer and Hamid Hayat over the objections of prosecutors.

Both are charged with lying to the FBI about the younger man´s attending an al-Qaida training camp in Pakistan during 2003 and 2004.

The younger man is also charged with supporting terrorism by attending the camp.

Prosecutors say some evidence against the pair was obtained using methods so secret they can´t be disclosed in open court or to anyone without a security clearance.

Defense attorneys say they have had the evidence since July and consider it favorable to their case.
