Sonora Motorists Not Getting The Message

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — According to Sonora Police Lt. Mark Stinson area motorists are not getting the message regarding the red arrow light at the Restano-Mono Way intersection.

The California State Vehicle Code states that you must come to a full stop at a red arrow and you cannot make a right hand turn until a green light appears.

Just after 5pm on Christmas Eve Kerry Kilgore stopped for the red arrow light but rather than waiting until it turned green, he proceeded to make a right hand turn onto Mono Way and hit Margarita Vargas who was in the marked crosswalk crossing the street with a green light. Vargas was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

Stinson states that each time S.P.D. officers patrol the area they write approximately a dozen tickets. He adds that those patrols will definitely continue.
