New Digs In Store For Calaveras County Food Bank

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Thursday at 1:30 ground will be broken for the new Human Resource Council (HRC) Food Bank.

The ceremony, come rain or shine, will take place at 232 George Reed Drive just off Poole Station Rd. in San Andreas. The new location and facility will enable HRC to vastly increase both its food storage capacity and the number of families it can serve.

Funding for the new HRC Food Bank has come from a variety of sources including a $325,000 Community Development Block grant from Calaveras County as well as an additinal $125,000 to help with the property purchase.

The Food Bank expansion will enable HRC to become part of Second Harvest, the nation´s largest charitable hunger-relief organization. The 25 year old non-profit organization provides 48 tons of canned good and seven-and-a-half tons of fresh fruits and vegetables to approximately 10,000 Calaveras County families on an annual basis.
