Sponsored by:
Sonora, CA — There was smoke but no fire at the Tuolumne County Jail during the noon hour this afternoon.
Tuolumne County Fire Department Inspector Steve Gregory says there was just enough smoke from the work being performed by the building´s roofing contracter to activate the fire alarm. The smoke apparently entered the building through the HVAC system.
Jailer J.P. Jones says none of the 140 prisoners had to be moved because of the incident.
Three engines responded to the scene at 28 North Lower Sunset Drive.
