Episode Of Reality Show Filmed In Calaveras County Recognized By Industry

San Andreas, Ca — An episode of a reality television show that was shot earlier this year in Calaveras County was a big winner at the 13th annual California On Location Awards held Sunday night near Los Angeles.

An episode of “Mythbusters,” entitled “Big Drop,” won in the category of Production Company/Location Team of the Year for Television Reality.

The episode of the show, which aired on The Discovery Channel, was trying to prove the myth that a man free-falling from 500 feet could be cushioned by the blow of an explosion. Unfortunately for believers of the urban legend, the myth was “busted.”

“I nominated the Mythbusters production team, Beyond Productions, for the positive way they conducted film business in Calaveras County,” says Calaveras Visitors Bureau and Film Commission Executive Director Lisa Reynolds . “They got the local police and fire department involved so they could use the explosions as training. They really created a wonderful partnership and continue to do so.”

Because the production team was unable to attend the event, Reynolds accepted the award Sunday night.

Reynolds notes that it was great publicity for Calaveras County, and a way to market itself to many decision makers in the film industry.

Mythbusters has filmed three episodes in Calaveras County. Reynolds says a forth episode is scheduled to be filmed in November.
