Breast Cancer Awareness Month
San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors chambers looked like a sea of pink Tuesday morning as female county employees donned pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.
Also dressed in pink and passing out pink ribbons was Supervisor Merita Callaway who sponsored an agenda item proclaiming October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Calaveras County.
Callaway urged women over 40 years of age to get mammograms and called on their families and friends to support them in doing so.
The National Cancer Institute estimates that in 2007, 180,510 new cases of breast cancer will be detected and there will be 40,910 deaths in the United States from the disease.
