Sonora High Lockdown Rescinded

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — A 35 minute lockdown at Sonora High was canceled by police at 12:30 today without incident.

Initially, there was a report of a man in a black t-shirt and jeans standing 5-10 and weighing approximately 250 pounds, with a knife who was chasing a woman in the 200 block of McCormick.

Due to the proximity of that address to the school, Principal Todd Deardon was asked by police to lockdown the school.

Later it was learned that the individual, whose identity is known to police, had left the knife at the home. No students were threatened and the individual did not encroach school property. The individual remains at large.

According to Deardon, the entire student body responded to the lockdown in an organized and expedient fashion.
