San Andreas, CA — Even though a new courthouse is in the works, Calaveras County officials have agreed to begin design work on improvements to the existing court facility.
Tuesday the Board of Supervisors approved a contract with an architect for a new courts entry area.
The project is estimated at $250,000 and would consist of a weatherproof entry with handicapped accessibility, improved climate control and a new x-ray machine for screening.
If and when a new court facility is built, County Administrative Officer Tom Mitchell says the x-ray machine would simply be moved. And, he added, the upgrades will serve the county´s use of the building even after courts are gone.
