Sutter Creek, Ca — The Sierra Business Council wrapped up a series of seven forums this week that were held with business leaders across the Sierra Nevada.
Spokesperson Betony Jones says the purpose of the meetings was to explore new opportunities that could invigorate and benefit the forest economy.
“Some of the things that were discussed included looking at new markets for ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration,” says Jones. “We talked a lot about that at all of the forums.”
Jones notes that they also focused some of the discussion on opportunities in stewardship contracting, as well as niche product marketing, promoting items such as small diameter timber products.
Jones says the SBC wanted to have an open discussion on these topics, and to keep ideas flowing. While different locations had different turnouts, approximately 300 took part.
