“Veteran’s Outreach Day” Coming Saturday
Sonora, Ca — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed this coming Saturday as “Veteran´s Outreach Day.”
It is in correlation with an event running from 9am-3pm at the Sonora Elk´s Lodge entitled, “Hire a Hero, Hire a Vet.”
Local Veteran Frank Smart told the Board of Supervisors that the event is an opportunity for young veterans to learn more about employment and educational opportunities in the community, as well as benefits they are entitled too receive. Smart is hoping that the younger generations of veterans will be more proactive than those from previous when it comes to applying for benefits offered by the government.
“I know personally that my generation would not come in,” Smart said at today´s meeting. “My generation refused to deal with the government, and refused to admit we had problems until we got into our fifties and sixties when our bodies started breaking up, and decided we needed some help. We don´t want to see this happen to the younger generations. We want them to get there benefits now, and get the education they are going to need.”
Smart says around 16 businesses and organizations will be on hand at the free event.
