Caltrans Grant Will Help Address Traffic Concerns In Arnold
Arnold, Ca — The Calaveras County Council of Governments has received an 80/20 grant from Caltrans to create a plan to address overall mobility in Arnold.
Caltrans will supply $80,000, while the Council of Governments $20,000.
“We have some challenges in that the main street of the town is also the state highway,” says Council of Governments Executive Director Tim McSorley. “The state highway´s goals are to move traffic, while the community´s goals, on the other hand, are too slow traffic down a little bit.”
McSorley says the purpose of the plan will be to figure out ways to make Arnold more attractive to both residents and tourists. Issues to be addressed include parking, access to businesses, and pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
A community meeting on the topic is scheduled for 6:30pm tonight. McSorley says it will be held at Independence Hall in White Pines. He is hoping a large contingency of Arnold area residents will take time to attend.
