Murder Mystery Underway For Sheriff’s Department

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department is continuing its investigation into an alledged weekend shooting.

Six o´clock Saturday evening deputies were dispatched to the area of Wards Ferry near Old Wards Ferry Rd. after receiving a report of a woman screaming and a person possibly being shot. No suspects or a victim were found.

Deputies learned of a vehicle that may have been involved in the incident and that vehicle was discovered Sunday morning over an embankment in the Deer Creek area south of the Wards Ferry Bridge known as Murderer´s Gulch.

Late Sunday afternoon deputies located and arrested 39 year old David Roy Stanton who resides in the 1000 block of O´Connell Drive in San Andreas. He has been charged with murder and is being held on $1 million bail.

Lt. Dan Bressler says deputies are are on the lookout for 29 year old Jon Steven Flaherty of Wallace as a “person of interest.” He is described as a white male, 5-9/180 pounds with green eyes and brown hair.
