Arnold Resident Killed On Murphys Grade Rd.
San Andreas, CA — A 21 year old unidentified Arnold man was killed early this morning while traveling as a passenger in a rollover accident on Murphys Grade Rd.
According to the Highway Patrol report, 20 year old Kevin Vargson of Arnold was driving at a high rate of speed in an eastbound direction when he failed to negotiate a curve. The 1997 Saturn Sedan proceeded onto a dirt shoulder and then over an embankment where it rolled several times.
Vargson was wearing a seat belt but still suffered major injuries. He was life flighted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
The two passengers were not wearing their seat belts. 20 year old Nathan Burch of Arnold suffered moderate injuries. He was transported to Mark Twain-St. Joseph´s Hospital. The other passenger died at the scene.
The CHP will determine if alcohol played a role in the accident.
According to CHP Officer Jaime Castillo, this marks the ninth Calaveras County traffic fatality this year.
