Want A “Get Out Of Jail Free” Card?

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — If you want to go to jail and be quickly released you can do so without even committing a crime.

The Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department is opening its jail to public tours Thursday and Saturday from 9am until 11:30am.

When the Board of Supervisors approved placing a bond issue on the November 6 ballot last week to raise local funding for a new jail, the department decided to open its antiquated facility so the public could realize how badly a new jail is needed.

In 2006 45 years of unserved time was placed on the books due to early prisoner release. The jail has only a 65 bed capacity.

Children may tour the Dispatch Center but by state law they will not be permitted in the jail portion of the building at 891 Mountain Ranch Rd.

For reservations and additional information, contact the Sheriff´s Department at (209) 754-6500.
