Angora Fire Reaches 55 Percent Containment
South Lake Tahoe, CA — Winds were mostly calm Wednesday afternoon allowing firefighters to gain ground on the still 31-hundred acre Angora Fire.
Containment now stands at 55 percent. 176 residences and 75 commercial structures have been destroyed.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it has been determined that it was “human caused.”
22-hundred firefighting personnel are on scene. The firefighting cost to date is estimated at $5.5 million. State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner stated Wednesday that total damage is presently at $150 million.
Winds are expected to increase over the next couple of days. Full containment is expected Tuesday, July 3.
