Coleville, CA — Firefighters are gaining the upper hand on the Larson Fire that has burned 1,080 acres of grass, sagebrush and pinyon pine between Walker and Coleville.

Containment is now listed at fifty percent by the Bureau of Land Management. Wednesday morning containment was only twenty-five percent.

Approximately 70 family members of the Marine Corp housing area north of Coleville have been allowed to return to their homes. Highway 395 is open; however a detour has been established around Coleville due to heavy fire vehicle traffic.

Cause of the fire; a June 1 lightning strike at 3:45pm.

As of Wednesday, according to Fire Information Officer Barbara George in San Andreas, no CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit resources had been requested by B.L.M. officials.
