Decrease In T.C. Sheriff’s Department Personnel Leads to Fewer Court Filings

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The number of cases being tried in Tuolumne County Superior Court is on the decrease.

That was according to a report to the Board of Supervisors Tuesday by District Attorney Donald Segerstrom. He says in 2005, 913 felonies were tried in court. In 2006 there were only 591. Misdemeanors also fell from 2,651 to 2,370 during the same span.

Segerstrom says that calls for service to the Sheriff´s Department actually increased in 2006, however, there was a decrease in patrol personnel. Segerstrom told the supervisors,Fewer deputies and fewer investigators, means fewer reports and means fewer filings.”
