Angels Camp Boosters Part Ways With Fair

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp , CA — For the first time in history, the Angels Camp Boosters will not officiate the Frog Jumps at the 2007 Calaveras County Fair and Frog Jumping Jubilee.

The boosters are a group of community members that formed in 1925 with the goal of boosting the area´s economy. In 1928 the group started the frog jumps to celebrate the paving of Main Street. In 1938 the event was joined with the county fair.

Last year the fair formed a committee to advise the fair board of directors regarding the operation of the frog jump. Since then the boosters have been working with the committee on their involvement.

Booster President Sandra Date says after learning they would not be paid and several accommodations would not be made, the boosters this month decided they would not be involved in the 2007 frog jumps.

Fair Manager Ray Malerbi says its unfortunate the boosters are not going to continue their relationship after so many years of involvement. He says he would love to hear and discuss the booster´s accommodation concerns.

Date says the boosters will orchestrate their own event somewhere in downtown Angels Camp on May 20 shortly after the fair´s frog jump finals.

Malerbi says he wishes them well.
