Calaveras Sheriff: Growth Impacting Calls For Service

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum says Copperopolis and Valley Springs are seeing increases in calls to the Sheriff´s Department.

This is what Downum reported while talking to the Board of Supervisors Tuesday about Mokelumne Hill safety issues.

The increase, he says, is tied to the growth these communities are seeing.

Downum says historically Copperopolis had one of the lowest call volumes with something between 800 to 1,000 calls in a 14-month period. Now, over the last 14 months, Copperopolis had 2,442 calls.

And Valley Springs, another booming area in the county, had 5,300 calls for service.

Downum, who periodically runs the numbers so he can best allocate his resources, says to cover, he is using deputies from higher elevation communities that have lower call volumes.
