Calaveras Sheriff Honors Longtime Volunteers
San Andreas, CA — After 16 years of volunteering with the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Office, John and Virginia Tremaine are retiring.
The couple retired from operating their own machine shop and settled in Calaveras County in 1989. At the age of 65 they joined the Sheriff´s Volunteer Unit.
The Sheriff´s Department says the two didn´t take long to become a fixture in the organization. Besides their routine service, the Tremaines performed a variety of tasks including assisting with traffic control at large events, patrolling neighborhoods and conducting vacation home checks.
The Sheriff´s Office says this freed up deputies time to pursue criminals.
A retirement ceremony will be held Wednesday, February 21 at 10 a.m. in the Sheriff´s Office at the Govenrment Center in San Andreas.
