Sonora, CA — 90 year old Milton Baker died Monday in Sonora.

Baker served as superintendent of the Sonora Union High School District from 1965 to 1976. His 36 year educational career moved him from his native Ohio to California.

Baker helped save the historic Dome (built in 1909) which served as the city´s elementary school until it was declared an earthquake hazard 40 years ago. The school then moved to its current site on Greenley Rd.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday at 1pm at Sonora´s First Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at 3pm at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.
